Real Taps for Real Heroes!
Dr. Matthew Burford, passionate advocate for veterans, is embarking on a heartfelt journey to historic U.S. memorials and cemeteries to raise awareness about the urgent need for live buglers in the United States. With only 26 active buglers in his home state of Alabama alone—down from over 80—the tradition of performing “Taps” at military funerals is at risk all across the United States. Dr. Burford’s mission is to ensure every veteran receives the dignity of a live bugler to honor their service.

Why Buglers Matter
Awareness CampaignFor the love of veterans
“Taps” is more than a melody; it’s a sacred tradition that honors the courage, sacrifice, and service of our nation’s veterans. However, due to a shortage of live buglers, many families are left with a recorded version. A live performance brings dignity, emotion, and respect that no recording can replicate.

“Thank you so much Matt for your service as well as good conversation. It is truly a blessing that you have a calling and deep desire to bring back Taps being played like home cooking way back in the day.
May the Lord be a blessing to you and your family for all that you do as you touch peoples hearts as you did today with me.”
